Peace by Piece--Matthew 28:6

To all of you, whether you celebrate or not, I wish a happy Easter this weekend. It is such a gift just to be alive, and I'm thrilled that we can all partake in that gift together. May your days be joyous and your life abundant.

Peculiar People #47

I started losing my hair in high school. This is something I think about all the time.

Peculiar People #46

Ah, the Monday after General Conference: the simultaneous feeling of being full of zest for life and not wanting to get back to the business of life.

Peculiar People #45

We made it! I hope you've had as much fun with me on my General Conference marathon as I have. Tomorrow's showtime!

My apologies, of course, to all the New Orleans football fans out there. Better luck next year?

Peculiar People #44

The hardest calling I have ever had in the Church was ward choir director. Anyone else? If I could ever pull a group together, I basically just flailed my arm around like I knew what I was doing and stopped periodically to have my precious volunteers sing the same line over and over again, not because they actually needed the rehearsal, but because I had forty-five minutes to fill and gosh darn it, God wanted me to be a choir director, so I was going to act like a choir director.

To all you choir directors out there, I salute you.

Sometimes we don't know everything, and that's okay. Hold on to what you do know.

Peculiar People #43

I don't mean to diminish the sacredness of sacrament meeting or General Conference by calling out a behavior that I find symptomatic of a larger issue. I also don't mean to come across as judgmental, though I don't doubt some will take it that way. To those who do, I apologize.

To be sure, speaking in front of a group of people is hard. And those who don't enjoy it have valid reasons, from anxiety to personal struggles with the topical principles.

But when someone only has fifteen to twenty minutes to expound on a meaningful subject, as a hearer I always appreciate it when they don't spend the first five of those minutes throwing the person under the bus who invited them up there.

It's okay to be scared--and it's even okay to (privately) say no.

But I promise the Spirit will be stronger if you don't tell the congregation you don't want to be there.

Warped Plastic #61

If I'd known Duplo figures were good for making buffet jokes, I would have invested much sooner.

Peculiar People #42

I can hear the chorus already: "Not all Latter-day Saints come from Utah!" In fact, more of the 16.1 million of us worldwide live outside the United States than inside.

All I can say to that is, I hope you'll forgive me for a joke.

I've been struggling with my writing lately. But quotes like this always help.
